The Gentlewoman's Choice

Hello!!!

Outside, my world is cold and gray. The snow is still pretty, but not nearly as pretty as when it first fell! It's cloudy, instead of bright blue and sunny. I've been trying to avoid going outside at all costs for the last few days. I'm a wimp when it comes to cold!! :) (Unless I'm skiing or doing something like that!) But inside, I am warm, and so happy I don't have to be out there!! :)

Have you read this ^ book?
If not, I highly suggest you do. It's so beautifully written, so sweet and thought provoking. I just finished it a couple of days ago, (for the second time! :)) and loved it. I decided to read it again, right away, but slowly, and stop reading every time I came to something amazing, and think about it. Most of the time I just blaze through books, and don't stop and think about things. This book is filled with beautiful quotes and things.
Here's one of the first things that caught my attention last night, just a few pages in.
The mother and her adult son are talking, while on vacation, and the son is angry because the weather is stormy. He brings up the story about the three Hebrews in the fiery furnace.
"I am afraid, Cornelius, my dear son, that you will need the furnace yourself to teach you that the will of God, even in unpleasant weather, is a thing for rejoicing in."
I've never really considered the will of God something to rejoice in, much less when His will is different that what I think I *want.*
This book is about 23-year-old Hester Raymount, a girl living in London. She has a passion for the poor, and a beautiful voice. When, her family inherits a home in the country, and her father becomes a semi wealthy squire, a man, who hides his real character from her, falls in love with Hester, and they become engaged.
Then, when her future looks bright, her brother make some awful choices, and disappears. Her family is devastated, and Hester fears that her engagement must be broken off. She quickly goes to London to restore the family's honor, and try to find her wayward brother.
Then, Lord Gartley reveals his true character, and Hester must decide if her convictions, and her Calling, are worth more to her than marriage to the earl.
You can find the book on Amazon, pretty cheap. :)
So, what do you do inside, to keep from going crazy, when the weather is frigid outside?
And another random question, if you're a country girl, do you have *your*mountain, that's near you, that you love, and claim?
Mine's Adams, and I LOVE that mountain, and I love Hood second best. :)

Well, hope you have a wonderful rest of the weekend!!

randomness

Little things make me happy. A bird eating out of a birdfeeder, a water drop on a flower, facial expressions, dogs intent of getting that squirrel, emails from my brother. I love being a “photographer,” because it gives me the opportunity’s to capture the little things, the happy little things. J

This ^ is our lovely yellow lab, Sunny, at the park the other day, she was about to run after a squirrel, and she looks so intent. It’s funny to watch her chase a squirrel and then look surprised that she didn’t get it! J She does get a lot of them here at the house though.

This ^ little boy is too cute. His name’s Luke and he is one of my seven brothers. J
Such a sweet girl!!! ^
Who knew that taking macro pictures of wet dog fur was entertaining?!?!
I love fruit, and taking photos of it is totally fun! There is such a variety of colors and shapes, and sizes…
Pomegranate is really fun to photography, and it’s one of my favorite flavorings for juice and infused redbulls. J

Littlest siblings,  ^ who are really cute!!
What little thing makes you happy?

Becca

snow + tea = sitting inside and being warm

I know that every blogger out there is talking about the weather and snow and all that lovely stuff, so I promise not talk to long about it!!
Yes I’m a happy gal; we have about a foot of gorgeous white stuff, and a half an inch or more of ice on top. I’m staying inside and drinking coffee and tea all day!! J I love winter days, when it’s too cold to even think about going outside, so we stay in and watch a movie instead of freezing. J

Okay, I’m done!!

Are you having fun in the snow, or are you like me and are spending your time in, looking out on it? :)

shopping

Doesn't that word just make you happy? I love to shop, but in certain circumstance, shopping with my seven younger siblings is a little, challenging, shall we say. :PBut nevertheless, shopping is still really fun.

I went shopping a couple days ago, (with my seven little siblings. :P) and came away with some really cute things, I took some photos (with my six-year-old sister's help.) of a couple of my favorite things.

This sweater is lighter purple than in the above photo, and darker than the one below. :) It really is beautiful, and looks good on me, dark colors look good on me. :)

Sorry about the funny pose, I was having some fun while I did this, and this was the best one. :)
This is a cool color!! I can't believe that I convinced my mom to let me get it. :D I love this green.

And this is my 6-year-old sisters, and I am in love!! It is so cute, I think I'll steal it from her. :) Ok, maybe not, I just thought about what it would look like if I walked around town with this on. :)

And I just added this scarf to a scoop neck tee I haven't been wearing, and I am in love with it. It's SOO cute.
So, do you like shopping?

this is a new year

With the pages fresh this is a new year, with all new challenges, fun and lessons.

This is 2012.

2011 was a hard year for me, and, honestly, I’m pretty glad it’s over. There were changes that I’m still trying to get used to, and I probably won’t ever get used to, problems that I just can’t solve.

Having both my older brothers move out within 4 months of each other is hard. Their my best friends in the world, and it’s difficult to see them branch out, and move on with their lives, and leave me behind, to struggle on by myself.

But 2011 was also fun. We went places this year, with friends, camping, skydiving, (only getting to watch, unfortunately for this thrill loving gal,) skiing, canoeing, rock climbing… and my parents even let me fly down to visit my Aunt and Uncle in CA by MYSELF for a week.(which I’m sure you all have heard about like many times!! J)

I refuse to make “new year’s resolutions,” because I always fail them, but I do have some goals for myself.

Some of them include:

Improve my photography
Learn some basic car mechanics,
Get ‘in shape”
Collect lots more old books
Get way better on the piano and flute…

So, I wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR, and I hope your year is happy, and simply epic!!!

With much love,

december 2nd...

Hello there!!

I am so totally excited... It's December 2nd!!!!! That means that in tomorrow I'm gonna put up the Christmas decorations, and I can listen to Christmas music without my family telling me that it's to early. I can go shopping and buy to much, and blame it on "Christmas Shopping!" This is the best season of the year!

In just a little while, I can go skiing!! (just in case you don't know already, I love to ski! :) )

and someday I'm gonna take my own picture of a snowflake.

I am in love with this season, how 'bout you?

a cool fall walk in the backyard

This is my crazy dog, as she is chasing something. She is just as much of a Country gal as I am, maybe more, she actually likes the snakes and squirrels and bugs. :)

Mom couldn't believe I am posting this. I love shooting clays. (except when there's people watching!!!! J)

i love being a big sister

I love being a big sister.

I love love love love love being a big sister. It is absolutely amazing being able to tell your little sister how excited you felt the day she was born, and being able to tell your little brother what that you liked to do exactly what he is doing, when you were little.

It is so fun to rescue your little brother from a tree, as he is about to fall out of it, and then hold his hand, because he won’t walk unless you do (!!) all the way to the house.

Today my two-year-old brother came out of the girls’ room, where my 6-year-old sister had just dressed him up in a cute little dress. He was walking out the door, through the kitchen, where I was peeling some vegetables, and he was saying to himself, “I am a girl.” I took one look at him and realized that the poor thing was having an identity crisis. I pulled the dress off over his head, and explained, trying to make it at a 2-year-old level. “No, you’re a boy, not a girl. Boys wear pants and boyish shirts, not dresses. Now go outside and play with some toy guns or swords.” And with that, sent him outside. J It is rather funny, seeing as though I used to dress my brothers up in dresses and myself in boys cowboy clothing. We actually have pictures of my older brother and I and all the little ones, (or as many were born at the time! J) dressed as the opposite gender. Now, I’m trying to stop my little sisters from doing the same. Funny how your perspective changes as you grow up!! J

Caleb (the two-year-old)

I love watching little kids play, and stopping their little fights and arguments, and holding their hands, and tickling their necks, smothering them with kisses, and reading them stories.

I just love being a big sister!!!!! J

You'll never guess where I just was!!!

I just got back from going to a Victorian Masquerade Ball with our really (really really really,) good friends the Fitzwater family!!!!! (who we have known for like 10 years now.) It was SOOO fun!

We did the Virginia Reel, Grand March, Waltzing, and others. My older brother, Andrew, was sure that he was going to hate it and didn't even want to go, but by the end of the night he was having as much fun as I was and I absolutely LOVE to dance! :)

We also spent the night to have a bit more time with them!!!! And Sierra and I managed to make it into bed pretty early; 2:00 A.M… J we usually are up until at least 3:00 or 4:00. J

Do you remember the dancing from this movie, it was like this only a little more bouncy and not so polite and quiet. :)

Thanks For having us guys!!!!!!
